Hollywood Sign - LA Insider Now

December 26th 2022: Longtime Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti as he left office had one final executive directive and that was to create a program that would illuminate the Hollywood sign. The first thing the new Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass did was rescind that executive directive. The Hollywood sign is such a landmark which tourists from around the world come to see it seems surprising that the sign isn't illuminated at night. Some of the reasons given for the sign not to be illumined in the past include worrying about wildlife as well as traffic safety. The sign was put up in 1923 by a real estate developer and originally said Hollywoodland but that was changed in 1949 when is was shortened to just Hollywood. Hopefully a way to illuminate the Hollywood sign can be worked out as the landmark should be illumined at night. AD: I filed my taxes with TurboTax last year!
