LA Grand Hotel Will Continue To House Homeless

January 14th 2023: The LA Grand Hotel is a 13 story hotel that was being used by the City Of Los Angeles as a important homeless facility; Unfortunately for a city dealing with a homelessness disaster it was due to close in less than three weeks.

The hotel has served as temporary housing since the pandemic started with its 480 rooms getting people off the streets. The new Mayor Karen Bass made the issue of getting homeless encampments off the streets as well as bring the homeless inside which was a core part of her campaign for Mayor.

Fortunately a new deal has been worked out and the LA Grand Hotel will continue to house the homeless through January 31st of 2024.

Opinion:

The homeless issue is a major issue for all of Los Angeles and California in general, governments need to allow higher density house as well as change the restrictions so builders can make money on less expensive projects instead of only expensive condos or single family houses.

Yes people that own single family homes don’t want apartment buildings being built nearby but if people that make less money have to move out of Los Angeles because of lack of affordable housing everyone that becomes homeless effects everyone. Local businesses still need retail and restaurant employees to operate if people cannot afford to live near where they work it effects everyone.

The homelessness disaster was caused by poor city planning over lots of years. if homeless people that were able to work could have a roof over there head off the street; Then we could deal with the other homelessness issues such as mental illness and drug addiction.

Los Angeles is known as the City Of Angels hopefully if it cleans up its homeless issues as well as create affordable housing it can become that city we all love.
